Hyla Coetzee was born in 1961 in Vioolsdrift, Namaqualand. Presently she resides in Kleinzee in the Northern Cape. Painting, which started as a hobby, soon developed into her passion, fulfilling her dream of becoming a full time artist, teaching art to students and special needs children. She is a self-taught artist aiming to portray beauty, not only in portraits but in still life, landscape and flowers.
The human face is most fascinating to her. Her work has a decorative motive. She does not adhere to a specific style as such. The style she uses depends on the result she wants to achieve. Colour is the most important element in her work. She prefers to use mixed media and doesn’t restrict herself to artistic rules.
Though she uses different mediums, her preference lies with acrylics. She enjoys painting and her goal is to give enjoyment to the people who see her paintings.
