Jessica-May Bergh, born in Pretoria, South Africa, studied Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria. Having grown up in a multicultural household, Jessica-May was significantly influenced by the juxtaposition between her parent’s cultures. After completing her Honours degree in Fine Arts, she resided in Prague, in the Czech Republic, for 5 years.

A strong theme that spans her body of work is the exploration of the liminal spaces and juxtapositions between frequently opposing concepts such as nature and technology, South African and Czech cultural mind, Us and the Other.

My work explores the occupation of the spaces at and on both sides of the transitional thresholds in our lives. Through drawing, I attempt to evoke the viewer’s internal exploration of their darker, more difficult-to-face truths about the often chaotic and grey lives that we all live.
