Nazarite Tam was born in Hong Kong, China, in 1995. In 2006, he moved to South Africa and currently resides in Pretoria. He is studying for his Honors Degree in BA Fine Art at the University of Pretoria.
He was the runner-up in the Stroke of Genius Art Competition in 2013 and has participated in group exhibitions at the Association of Art, Anton van Wouw House, Trent gallery and Artlovers gallery.
As an artist, there are two components which he explores. One being the identities of a migrant (Asian-African), and the other being the identities of post-colonial culture (Mainly South Africa and Hong Kong). Both components are closely related to the term diaspora.
In his practice, he reinterprets the South African landscape though the lens of an Asian migrant, and by representing these well-known geographic locations he hopes to open up a conversation regarding the meanings embedded within the landscapes.
